Purpose: We reported the improvement in visualization of clear vitreous during vitrectomy for macular hole after administration of 10% sodium fluorescein.
Methods: Five eyes of five patients with macular hole who required pars plana vitrectomy, internal limiting membrane peeling and intravitreal gas injection were included in the present study. An injectable solution of 10% sodium fluorescein (5 mL) diluted with normal saline (50 mL) was administered orally before 12 hours from surgery.
Results: No patients had adverse effect of oral administration of sodium fluorescein, and green colored vitreous was seen with endoillumination probe.
Conclusions: In the present study, oral administration of sodium fluorescein is relatively safe and helpful for chromovitrectomy.
